Actor, director, and screenwriter Walter Marvin Koenig (born 14 September 1936; age 72) portrayed Pavel Chekov on Star Trek: The Original Series and first seven Star Trek movies. He was the only original cast member not to lend his voice to Star Trek: The Animated Series, due to budgetary reason. He still contributed to the series, however, by writing the episode "The Infinite Vulcan". His last name is pronounced "KAY-nig."
His son, Andrew Koenig, appeared in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Sanctuary" as Tumak. Koenig himself would later appear in Deep Space Nine, in the archive footage of "Trials and Tribble-ations". His wife, Judy Levitt, has appeared in bit parts in several Star Trek films.
Koenig recently wrote, starred in, and executive produced a science fiction film called InAlienable. Koenig premiered an unfinished trailer of the film at the 2007 Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. [1] TNG actress Marina Sirtis also stars in the film; among the other performers who appear are fellow Star Trek alumni Erick Avari, Gary Graham, Richard Herd, J.G. Hertzler, his wife Judy Levitt, Lisa LoCicero, Courtney Peldon, Alan Ruck, Patricia Tallman, and Koenig's son, Andrew.
It is interesting to note that when originally announced in 2003, InAlienable – then known as Illegal alien – was set to star John de Lancie and Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo. [2] According to Koenig during his appearance in Las Vegas, Picardo had to drop out of the film because his was filling in for Koenig on a Star Trek cruise. John de Lancie also dropped out as he was unhappy with the changes being made to the film.
