An ATM (Automated Teller Machine) was an Earth device existing during the early 21st century. It dispensed currency to bank customers who had an existing account, with the amount taken from the machine then deducted from their account.
During a visit to the year 2004, Captain Jonathan Archer used a scanner to illegally access an ATM in Detroit to acquire money for gas for their "borrowed" Dodge Ram, while T'Pol kept watch to ensure nobody saw the crime. After successfully retrieving the money, Archer remarked that people used to go to jail for stealing money, to which T'Pol insisted they would return what they didn't use. (ENT: "Carpenter Street")
