Acute cellular breakdown was a medical condition caused by dehydration. Arkonians were particularly susceptible to this because of their endocrine system, which was extremely sensitive to temperature changes.

In 2152, an Arkonian named Zho'Kaan suffered from acute cellular breakdown. Because of this, Doctor Phlox felt he would not survive the transporter. (ENT: "Dawn")
