African Confederation

The African Confederation is the political entity on the continent of Africa on the planet Earth. This location was to serve as the birthplace of Geordi La Forge, but it never made it into a final aired episode or film.
This reference originated in Geordi La Forge's personnel file, which was created to be seen in TNG: "The Next Phase", but cut from the final episode. That file would have indicated that La Forge was born 16 February 2335 on the boundaries of the African Confederation.
It is unclear how it relates to the United States of Africa mentioned in the semi-official biographies of Uhura. The political boundaries of this region were unclear, and it is unknown if it composed the entire continent. It is possible that the African Confederation was a further development of today's African Union.
Uhura speaks of having lived in the African Confederation in the Star Trek newspaper comic strip.
