Alfalfa was a flowering plant native to the planet Earth. In the early 20th century, alfalfa was a common farm crop.
The 1936 Ford truck found by the USS Voyager in 2371 still had alfalfa seedlings stuck in the metal frame, indicating to Captain Kathryn Janeway that the truck likely belonged to a farmer. (VOY: "The 37's")
