Amanin of Betazed was a noted Betazoid therapist. He argued that the most effective way to retrieve an unconscious memory is by a combination of sensory isolation and focused breathing techniques.

In 2374, the Doctor integrated the finer points of Amanin's techniques with Jungian therapeutic techniques to create his own approach to reconstructing the memory of Seven of Nine. (VOY: "Retrospect")
