Archeology is the branch of science, closely associated with the field of anthropology, that studies the distant past, particularly the history of humanoids and their culture by the examination of recovered material evidence. Those who study in this field are known as archaeologists.

The field can be broken down into further specialties such as archaeological medicine. (TOS: "What Are Little Girls Made Of?")

Archeology is a course taught at Starfleet Academy.

An A&A officer was a position on Starfleet starships in the 23rd century which specialized in archaeology, anthropology, and ancient civilizations.
