An asteroid is a celestial body that is less than a planetoid, and are responsible for making up asteroid belts.
Spock once made the distinction between a planetoid and asteroid while describing the Companion's homeworld as "more than an asteroid," "like a small planetoid." (TOS: "Metamorphosis")
