Bamboo is a grass-like plant grown on Earth.
Bamboo was grown on the grounds of Starfleet Academy. To cover up his tricorder scanning of the Species 8472 re-creation of San Francisco in 2375, Chakotay claimed to Boothby that his tricorder was registering the bamboo as maple trees. (VOY: "In the Flesh")
