Coherent tetryon beam

A coherent tetryon beam is a type of scanning beam that was used to examine both the USS Voyager and the Maquis ship Val Jean. The beam was used by an alien known as the Caretaker in an attempt to find another lifeform like himself to take over his role as caretaker of the Ocampa. Any ships with lifeforms identified as candidates were then transported to the Caretaker's array via a displacement wave. (VOY: "Caretaker")
