Echo displacement is a technique to create decoy images on an enemy's sensors, using a starship's deflector grid.
In 2372, the USS Voyager used echo displacement to create the appearance of ten Talaxian ships, successfully diverting half of an incoming fleet of Kazon-Nistrim carriers. (VOY: "Basics, Part I")
