Escalator

An escalator is a mechanical transport device that allows people to move up and down without having to climb stairs.

Doctor Leonard McCoy once exclaimed that he was "a Doctor and not an escalator" when Eleen refused to be helped (and thereby touched) to climb a steep hill by anybody else besides the Doctor. (TOS: "Friday's Child")
