Field generator

A field generator is a device that artificially creates an energy field. The purpose of such a field vary from the control and manipulation of forms of energy or radiation, the prevention of damage to an entity like a starship, or the disruption of communication, sensors, and other uses of technology.
- One possible distinction between field generators and other generators is the latter also refers to devices that create useful energy to power devices like the former.
The force field around Noss' crashed ship on a Class D-planet was powered by a field generator. When members of Yost's species attacked the field with photon grenades in 2375, she left the ship to repair it where she had to be saved by Tuvok. (VOY: "Gravity")
