Forrester-Trent Syndrome
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
Forrester-Trent Syndrome is a rare degenerative neural disorder. The disease causes tremor on hands and may also cause severe seizures. If untreated, the disease may result in paralysis or death.
Forrester-Trent is a genetic disease and is usually inherited from the parents. However, some cases have been reported on which the disease was caused by a random mutation.
- The gene causing the disease appears to be dominant, as only one of the parents must carry it.
Neuro-stabilization regimen is the treatment used by Starfleet doctors. The treatment is not 100% reliable, but in most cases the patients respond to treatment well. In many cases the effects of the disease can be even reversed.
Jason Vigo suffered from Forrester-Trent Syndrome as a result of DNA resequencing. (TNG: "Bloodlines")
- According to Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, the syndrome derived its name from scriptwriter Larry Forrester and Trent Reznor from the rock band Nine Inch Nails.
