Gravimetrics is currently not an official branch of science. Neither is the word "gravimetrics" used as frequently in real life as it is in Star Trek. It is currently an example of technobabble, though it remains to be seen if a physical "theory of everything" (such as a quantum theory of gravity) will change this in the real world.
