The HMAV Bounty was a 18th century Royal Navy ship commanded by Captain William Bligh. The ship was well known for having its crew mutiny against Bligh. (VOY: "Year of Hell, Part II")

In 2285, Doctor Leonard McCoy dubbed a captured Klingon Bird-of-Prey the HMS Bounty in a "fine sense of historical irony." Admiral James T. Kirk continued in his log, stating, "like those mutineers of 500 years ago, we too have a hard choice to make. A choice made harder because we are all too old to suffer fools gladly." (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
