Joe Chess was a camera operator for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. He also served as the second unit director of photography for some episodes. In addition, Chess was the cinematographer for the Next Generation episode "The Host" and the video game Star Trek: Klingon.
Outside of Star Trek, Chess has worked as a camera operator on such television shows as Sliders, The West Wing, and Desperate Housewives. His film credits include Jerry Maguire, Deep Impact, Love & Basketball, Freaky Friday, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Two things in the Star Trek universe were named for him, Joe Chess (Captain) and Chess-Wilson.
