The Maxia Zeta system was a distant uninhabited star system situated inside to the territory of the Ferengi Alliance. The habitable zone of the star's planetary system lies within the orbits of the planets Maxia Zeta III and Maxia Zeta IV.
The USS Stargazer became the first manned Federation starship to chart this system in 2355. Upon charting the fourth planet, the Stargazer was ambushed by a Ferengi ship. The conflict, known later as the Battle of Maxia, became legendary among the students at Starfleet Academy for the tactic used by Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the defense of his ship and crew.
