Operation Watson

Operation Watson was the first attempt by Starfleet Communications to successfully create a communications link between Earth in the Alpha Quadrant and the USS Voyager, 30,000 light years away in the Delta Quadrant in 2377. It involved bouncing the signal off a quantum singularity, and provided a live link for eleven minutes each day. The project itself was devised by Harry Kim and Seven of Nine, who coordinated with Reginald Barclay. (VOY: "Author, Author")

The name probably comes from the famous world's first telephone call between Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."
