Orion interceptors were a fast, moderately armed starship used by the Orion Syndicate during the 22nd century.
[edit] Technical data
The exterior design of this classes hull is hawk-like in appearance, incorporating swept wings, positioned at the aft of the vessel, with a beak-like forward section. This class of vessel also featured quad-engine exhaust ports, three on the lower half of the ship and one on the upper half.
The Interceptors armaments include at least one particle cannon mounted underside the hull. When in use, the ship's transporter system creates a large energy surge. (ENT: "Borderland")
[edit] Encounters
Knowledge of this starship class was contained in the Vulcan database, however, the class remained unknown to Earth Starfleet until May 2154, when two Orion interceptors attacked and raided the starship Enterprise. The two interceptors quickly caught and ambushed Enterprise in the Borderland as it searched for an Augment-controlled Bird-of-Prey. The Orions were able to abduct nine crewmen from the Enterprise, including T'Pol and Jeffrey Pierce, before their escape.
Later, the two interceptors would again engage Enterprise, following its departure from Verex III, to reclaim their stolen property. They caused moderate damage to Enterprise before the Augments arrived in their commandeered Bird-of-Prey and forced both of the interceptors to retreat. (ENT: "Borderland")
[edit] Background
The interceptors only appearance was in "Borderland". Some fans have noted a similar, almost avian appearance in the design of this class, that is shared in both Romulan and Klingon vessels, suggesting, in the least, a sharing or theft of technologies via a newly formed Tal Shiar. (They also share the Romulans green coloration, and their beam weapons have the same color as Romulan and Klingon disruptors.)
