The Proteus Make-up FX Team (formerly Proteus FX) is a studio specializing in make-up effects for film and television. They recently worked on 2009's Star Trek for director/producer J.J. Abrams. The team operates out of a facility located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California.

Barney Burman is the artistic director and lead make-up artist of Proteus FX. His wife, Shielu Burman, is the studio's managing director.

Prior to Star Trek, Proteus FX had done make-up effects work for J.J. Abrams on the television series Alias and the 2006 film Mission: Impossible III (also from Paramount Pictures). Their many other projects include the films How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000, featuring Clint Howard), Pearl Harbor (2001), Planet of the Apes (2001, featuring Erick Avari, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and David Warner), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002, featuring Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Jr.), Men in Black II (2002), The Ring (2002, featuring Shannon Cochran), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, featuring Lee Arenberg and Zoe Saldana), Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006), Blades of Glory (2007), Tropic Thunder (2008), and Valkyrie (2009, directed by Bryan Singer).

They have also worked on such television series as The X-Files, Huff (starring Anton Yelchin), Arrested Development, Invasion, Medium and Scrubs.
