Sigma III system

The Sigma III system was an uninhabited star system in Federation space. For a brief period of time, in the mid-24th century, the Federation had a mining colony on the third planet of this system.

In 2364, the starship USS Enterprise-D received a distress call from the colony following a catastrophic mining accident. The Enterprise-D rescued nine survivors from the ill-fated colony. (TNG: "Hide and Q")

Though the system is named Sigma III in the log entries, this may be informal shorthand for the longer Quadra Sigma III System. The official designation of this system implies there are at least three stars named Quadra Sigma, possibly indicating a trinary system.
