Suspended animation device was a form of cryogenic stasis technology used by the Scalosians for taking over starships that visit Scalos.

In 2269, the Scalosians attached such a device, which was designed with a self-defense mechanism that did allow not any form of physical contact, to the life-support system aboard the USS Enterprise during their attempt to take the ship over. (TOS: "Wink of an Eye")
