Rodinium was known well after the discovery and use of Duranium (a primary component in Federation starship construction through to the 24th century). It was also known well after Neutronium, suggesting that Spock's comments were entirely concerning current Federation metallurgical capabilities (since Neutronium manipulation/creation remains a mystery to the Federation in the 24th century).

I've removed the above note, which speculates on when the material was first discovered and the extent of the Federation's ability to heat and shape metals based on Spock's comment from "Balance of Terror". The key word here is "speculation." --From Andoria with Love 05:30, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
