Temporal matrix
From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference.
A temporal matrix is a component of 29th century timeships such as the Aeon. The temporal matrix must be precisely calibrated before the vessel enters a temporal rift, or it will cause a massive explosion on the other side.
In an alternate 1996, Henry Starling attempted to travel to the future aboard the timeship Aeon without a properly calibrated temporal matrix, causing an explosion that wiped out the Sol system. This timeline was averted after the Aeon was destroyed by the USS Voyager. (VOY: "Future's End", "Future's End, Part II")
