USS Emden

The USS Emden (NCC-1856) was a Federation starship in service in the late 23rd century.

In 2293, the Emden was assigned to patrol the Neutral Zone at the time Operation Retrieve was proposed. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

The Emden was either named for the city in northern Germany or the early 20th century German cruiser.

While not an official source, Decipher roleplaying game supplements state that this vessel may be a Ranger-class starship.
