Vian

From Memory Alpha, the free Star Trek reference

The Vians were a humanoid species who inhabited the Minara system, prior to Minara's supernova in 2268. (TOS: "The Empath", "Turnabout Intruder")

The Vians were extremely advanced by 23rd-century Federation standards; they possessed the ability to transport the entire population of one planet (presumably pre-warp) to a safe location. They also possessed the ability to create detailed mirages of people they had never met and appeared to have the ability to read the minds of humanoids. They had a type of force field that fed off the energy and emotions exerted by those contained within. Captain Kirk and Spock were able to free themselves from the force field by suppressing their emotions and slowly walking out of it.

They also possessed handheld devices that were attuned to the thoughtwaves of the individual carrying them. The devices were capable of several effects including torture, healing, transportation, repelling an individual with some type of invisible energy, and physically slowing down a person's movements. Their transporter technology appeared to be functionally identical to the Federation's, albeit with a different and faster effect.

Notably, the Vians were immune to the Vulcan nerve pinch. They appeared to be on a par with humans physically. Kirk described the Vians as "all intelligence", having forfeited their emotions for it. The Vians were nearly heartless, willing to sacrifice any number of humans to convince Gem to sacrifice her own life for another's in an experiment, until they were convinced otherwise.

It is unknown if there were any Vians other than the two seen in the "The Empath" left alive. They could not have been native to the planet on which Kirk found them, as Spock had determined that humanoid life could not have evolved there.
