William Ware Theiss (20 November 1931 – 15 December 1992; age 61) served as Costume Designer for both Star Trek: The Original Series and for part of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Theiss worked in film and television for more than thirty years. His style can be summed up in the "Theiss Theory of Titallation" which states "the degree to which a costume is considered sexy is directly proportional to how much it looks like it is about to fall off." A private man, Theiss was never one for interviews. He died in 1992, a victim of AIDS.
